CHC30302 Certificate III in Disability Work

Course Overview

This qualification is targeted specifically towards those people who wish to work in the disability care area, either in a residential care facility or as a respite care worker in the home setting out in the general community.

Who would this course suit?

This course would be perfect for those people who are interested in working as a:

  • Disability Support Worker
  • Disability Service Officer
  • Residential Care Officer
  • In-Home Respite Carer

This course could also be used as a pathway to additional study at University.

Course Pre-requisites

People who wish to take part in the course will need the following things:

  • A willingness to help other people
  • A desire to learn new skills
  • A genuine ability to get along well with people from all walks of life
  • Reasonably good reading and writing skills (at least to year 10 level)
  • A good attitude towards life in general
  • Be fit and healthy
  • A current (within the last six months) National Police Clearance, this is an industry requirement. You will need this Police clearance if you wish to take part in any industry placement during the course.

Assessment

All assessments are competency based. The types of assessment used may include – skills demonstrations, assignments, knowledge tests, on the job work, projects.

Skills Recognition

All clients can apply for Skills Recognition. Course credit s and exemptions can be granted for both formal prior learning (training and Qualifications) and for current competencies (experience and abilities that you have already)

Course Content

The course consists of 14 units: Eight of these are compulsory and six are electives. The course below is an example of what units are available

Compulsory:

CHCCOM2B Communicate appropriately with clients and colleagues
CHCDIS1B Orientation to disability work
CHCDIS2B Maintain an environment designed to empower people with disabilities
CHCDIS5C Contribute to positive learning
CHCOHS302A Participate in safety procedures for direct care work
CHCORG3B Participate in the work environment
And one of the following units:
HLTHIR3A Work effectively with culturally diverse patients, clients, customers and co-workers OR
CHCCS405A Work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers
Electives:
CHCAC2C Provide personal care
CHCAD1C Advocate for clients
HLTFA1A Apply basic first aid
CHCCS6B Assess and deliver services to clients with complex needs
CHCDIS13A Support older people with disabilities
